Frequently asked questions

How secure is it?

An electronic insurance medical request improves the security of personal medical information used to assess your patient’s insurance requirements. The electronically transferred information is encrypted which means that it can only be seen by the GP, the Insurer and UHG on behalf of the insurer. By removing the need to print, scan and fax personal information you are reducing the likelihood of privacy breaches.

Where does the medical information request go once it has been submitted?

The request is immediately transferred to UHG’s secure online platform, medEbridge®. Only UHG employees and the authorised insurer then have access to the document in this secure environment.

Who can view the completed requests/documents that the doctor has submitted?

Once submitted, the information is able to be viewed by the authorised Insurer of the patient, with a copy of the completed request saved on to the UHG server. The completed request will not be passed on to or viewed by any other party.

Can I print the request if Doctor does not want to complete this electronically?

No. If a doctor is unwilling to complete the request electronically please contact UHG and we can arrange to have the request completed via a paper request.

Can we save a copy of the completed report/file copy?

Upon a request being submitted by the Doctor, you can contact UHG via email or phone and UHG will send the completed report back to yourself for your records.

Has the patient consented for their medical history to be transferred electronically?

All medical information requests have been sent to UHG from the patient’s Insurer, and the patient will have completed an application for this insurance policy prior to UHG receiving the information request. As a part of this application process the patients are required to provide authorisation (either electronically or hand signed) for release of their medical information to UHG and the insurer. Each request will have the patient’s authorisation attached for the Doctor to view.

Will my work save if I save and close the request?

Yes. The UHG electronic report through Best Practice allows the doctor to save and close the request at any point to go on with other work (including patient consults), at any point. Once a doctor has saved and closed the request they will have complete access to all the other usual functionality on the Best Practise system.

Can unauthorised parties view any of the patient’s medical information?

No. Only authorised users with login privileges (Doctors, Practice Managers etc) to your practices clinical system (Best Practice or Medical Director) have access to any and all patient medical information.
